linked belt

I finally got the linked belt put on my craftsman jointer. Runs nice and smooth again but the belt sure brought the noise level up. Very high pitched too. Does it matter which way the links face?
I havent turned it around yet because its a lot of trouble with an unlikely chance of it reducing the noise.
But if someone know for sure that its better with the links facing a certain direction I will try it.

Or if you have any other tips to reduce the noise Id love to hear em.

Wear hearing protection of some kind. It's always a good idea to use hearing protection when using tools like a TS, Thickness Planer, Router, Jointer, etc.

Does it matter which way the links face?

If you have the power twist link belt (I don't know about other brands), there's an arrow on some of the links (maybe every 7th one or every 10th one or something) - that's the direction the belt should be turning.

I got the ones from HF. They were way cheaper than the ones at Woodcraft. Mine are green theirs are red. No idea if thats the only difference. I didnt notice any arrows but I will check again.

I usually only where my ear plugs with the planer since thats the loudest thing around and actually bother me when I use it.

The belt would be turning counter clockwise when looking at the picture. Pat
