Who else has the Bosch 1617 switch problem?

I've had my Bosch 1617 router for almost 2 years. Before my warranty ran out
in year one, the switch died, I took it apart, but wasn't able to blow out the
dust. It was fixed for free by Bosch.

Last night I go to use it and had to rock the switch several times back and
forth before it started. This is about the same thing that happened to me
last time before it quit on me.

Anyway, it's out of warranty. Anyone buy their own switch and replace the
    switch on the router?

    Thanks, Paul

I've got the same problem with my 1617EVS but haven't repaired it because it's out of warranty. I've bought parts for my sanders at ToolPartsDirect.com before and have ordered the switch but am waiting for it to arrive. I got the same question, who has replaced the switch before and how hard is it? Here's a link to the site. Sorry I don't know how to work the link thing but just copy and paste to your browser.

They say the new switch number replaces the old number, hopefully with a better switch.

It has been a while but I replaced mine. I got a new switch from a Bosch dealer on my route. It wasn't the same part number but was a match. The R&R was easy to do. Cleaned the old switch, tested it (good), and put it away somewhere for a spare.

Had one 1617 for years with no problem. My newest one had switch failure about a month ago. I knew nothing about the problem and was switching outlets, jiggling cord, etc. Guess during all that the dust removed itself from the switch and started working again.
I wish there was a fix for this. I'm going to put that one in the RT with DC on top of fence and 4" opening in a box around the router. Hopefully that will get the dust moving quicker and there will be less time to get into the switch.

Thanks guys. That part is more affordable than I thought.

I think it's a great router system but after reading so many
people on Amazon having the same problem, you'd think Bosch
would have redesigned the switch--like a little dust shroud
          like some PCs have.

Bosch has redesigned the switch. I had the problem a few months out of warranty. I called and they told me they were redesigning the switch and would send me the newly redesigned switch when it was complete. In the mean time, they sent me a replacement switch (the old version). I swapped in the replacement and used it until, a few weeks later, the redesigned switch arrived. All of this was free of charge, and they never even asked me about date of purchase or warranty period.

Funny you should say that about PCs. I have a 7529 with the same "dust in the switch" issue (though this one doesn't have a shroud). It's not too much of a problem, though, because this router is almost always in the router table, so that switch stays in the on position. But the switch fills with dust more easily in this position, so when I do flip the switch, there's a really good chance it won't come back on without a cleaning.

              Regards,
              Tom

Assuming the new switch is sealed, I am going to give Bosch a call. Since I have already had to replace it once, maybe they will send me the redisigned switch. Worth a try.

I'm going to have to give them a call, too.
