What clamp varieties would I need ?

    Hi folks,

To be able to build a 3' wide kitchen cabinet with 2 raised panel doors and 3 drawers + a corner 6' hi pantry (with two ~3' doors) what variety of clamps would I need as a minimum...

    Thanks,
    /venkat

To answer this, I think we would also need to know how you plan to build the cabinets. For example biscuits are going to require more clamps than pocket screws, etc. Two sets of the Bessey 50" door making set would be nice for a project like that. I dont' know if they are still on special at Amazon though.

Have the Kreg 3 pro pocket hole jig set and the PC557 biscuit-joiner.
Ordered the 50" (2) besseys a few days back - but the plastic faces were broken and aluminum bar was warped :-( So returned those... Hoping to build pipe clamps using HF clamps and may be Lowes black threaded pipes of 36"/72"...

      Thanks,

load up on every clamp you can find. a few bessy cabinet door sets are needed, along with other little clamps to hold things, and whatnot. GET PARALELL JAW CLAMPS!! You will love them.

Buy every clamp you can get your hands on. Believe me, you're gonna need em someday.

Ask your local Lowe's or Home Depot about getting pipe cut and threaded. At our HD, I can buy a 10' stick of 3/4" black iron pipe for ten bucks and they'll cut and thread it for free. That's a buck per foot, MUCH cheaper than the precut pieces in the same store, and I get the exact lengths I want.

Get the pipe threaded on both ends, so you can use a coupler to join two short clamps into one long one.

Lastly, remember that with pipe clamps you'll lose 5"-6" for the fittings and whatever you use for clamp pads to prevent damage to your project (I use little squares of 1/2" MDF, faced with cork and screwed to the clamp fittings). Thus a 36" piece of pipe will net you roughly a 30" clamp.
