    Now THAT'S a planer

A friend of mine own's a small lumber mill. I took the rough heart pine I'm using for my bed project over to get it resized. My 6 x 10 trailer was stacked about 8" high w/ wood of various sizes from 3" T&G to 2 x 6's. Anywhere from 4' to 10'. I kid you not, this planer is the size of my S-10 Jimmy. It'll do 4 sides in 1 pass & runs off a big GM deisel. It's old as dirt, his dad bought it used in '46 I think he said. I was wondering how many passes we'd need to make as I was taking 1/4 ' or so off the big stuff to true it up flat & parallel. Turns out we didn't need but one. I kid you not, it took longer to load & unload the trailer. It didn't even change pitch when that 6" wide stuff came thru w/ 1/4" DOC. I'm talking about chips the size of Potato chips. This may be old hat for you guys but to see something w/ that much power was BTTB for sure. I'm thinking about taking some more back just to watch it make chips.

not sure about the age, but a buddy of mine that runs a mill in PA has one of those. They do come in rather handy when you have to mill 4 sides of 5000 bf of lumber.

Sorry, no pics. I was too busy keepin' that monster fed!
I'm no shutter bug but I'll say this, OSHA didn't exist when this unit was built. There were belts. pulleys & gears everywhere.

A camera would have just gummed up the works.

I will post BF/after pics when the bed is done.

              Will settle for pictures.

Just go visit your buddy when he is running some stuff thru it. I'm sure he won't mind getting some free publicity.
