    PC890 Series Question

I just very recently purchased a PC 893 router package for general use. My real reason for buying this router was to use on the Leigh jig but I figure I will use it for all my hand router use. My question is to those that own an 890 series router. When running the router for a bit I find the spindle really heats up! It gets hot enough to the point that I can not touch it and have to let it cool down before I can change bits. Is this normal? I am wondering if I should take the motor back and exchange it for a different one as it seems to me that this heat can only be coming from friction somewhere. I have taken the motor out of the base and run it by itself with no Collet installed and it still heats up. Only the spindle is hot and the motor is quite cool. I am a bit concerned about this.

Found out on here there is a recall. You can search yahoo for the recall and it lists the serial numbers affected. The only time mine heated up like you describe, smoked and shut off was after making 3 raised panels in oak in single passes. After it cooled down it worked fine but I still plan to return it one of these days for a new motor.

No way should it heat up like that under noload conditions. I don't think it should get as hot as you describe under normal load conditions. I'd check on a recall or take it back. Pat

As onedash said there was a recall on some of the 890 motors. They replaced my 895 motor with no problem.
