    Ryobi RE180PL plunge Router

I have this Ryobi Plunge Router. I am trying to find a source for a straightedge attachment and bushings. Does anyone know where I might find these items?

    I appreciate any help.

    Thanks

This from the Ryobi web site:

"If you would like to order parts from one of our Master Parts Distributors, call Ryobi’s Customer Service Line at 1-800-525-2579. Once you’re connected, choose prompt #1. If you live east of the Mississippi River you will automatically be connected with Dixie Sales Company. If you live west of the Mississippi River you will automatically be connected with Billiou’s Inc. Canadian customers will automatically be connected with Dixie Sales Canada. "

My local HD had an edge guide for a long time, right up until I went over to buy it. Now it's gone and no replacement in sight.

For the guide bushings, the best bet is to get a universal sub-base and PC style bushings. Woodcraft, Rockler, others have the sets available. PC bushings are pretty much the standard, so that seems to be the best way to go. I know that's what I'll do when I need bushings on my (non-plunge_ Ryobi router.

Jim, that would be a good idea, but that particular plunge router doesn't have a removable sub-base, so the universal stuff won't work.

Yes it indeed will, the RE180PL has a plastic laminate on the bottom that is actually covering the holes that you'll need to mount a universal base. I have the milescraft base mounted on mine.

            Boomer,

I checked at M and D mower, from whom I've ordered a few things (specifically, the depth adjustment knob, Part # 975220, very handy if you're using the RE180PL in a table, for $20).

They priced the template bushing guide kit (part 4070177) at $27.
They priced the straight guide (part 6090080) at $45.

I also checked Ordertree.com, and they wanted a little more for each.

Both of those items came with the RE1803BK (the three base kit) that I bought a year or so ago. The template bushings are not worth one-fourth of that. I encourage you to consider the Milescraft base that Thom2 linked above, or any of a number of universal bases. You can find the Milescraft base, which I also have, at Woodcraft for $14.99.

Then find a good brass template bushing set, like the Woodcraft set currently on sale for $17.99. I have that set, and it works great with the Milescraft base. I especially like the shorter "stems" on the Woodcraft set.

Milescraft also makes a template bushing set for about $10. I have them, but I prefer the Woodcraft brass set.

As for the straight-edge guide, what are you doing that causes you to want it? Perhaps we can help you figure out a different solution/technique that's much more cost effective than ordering one.

Ah Thom, cool, I didn't know that. How did you take that plastic off?

If I had to do it over, I'd locate the holes and carefully cut the laminate around the holes that you'll need. It wasn't hard to get off tho', just lift a corner with a knife and peel. It's stuck on there pretty good but IIRC it all came off in one piece with a little persuasion.

                  Thanks for all this help

                  Guys,
Thanks for all this great info. I think I am going to try the universal base first. I have a local woodcraft store so purchasing stuff from WC is a breeze. Only problem is that I have built a jig for cutting dados and it is sized for the flat-faced base. But I needed to rebuild it anyway so this gives me a good excuse.

Still a little uneasy about removing the laminate face but maybe I can get a better understanding tonight after I get a chance to look over the router.

I really appreciate all the help ..... thanks again.

PS. M&D will be my source for the straight edge. I have purchased parts from them befor and I didnt think about accessories...Thanks.
