    Neat little Hammer...

I have a 6oz hammer that gets a LOT of use - brads, nail punch etc.
Just a "regular" straight peen hammer and now very old.

I saw this "somewhere" and ordered one. My old one is now stuck in a drawer.

This is the most delightful thing to hold and use - and IMHO, not expensive.

They describe it in the latest issue of ShopNotes - along with a number of other hammers, like the glazing hammer with rotating triangular head, a round brass mallet and a wood-faced mallet. Nice tools.

I've been looking all winter for a small hammer like that here in Canada, but can't find one anywhere. Tried craft shops etc, but still nothing. The reason I want it is for my grandson, he's only 5 years old, and can't handle a regular hammer yet. He likes to do little projects with Poppa so I thought a little hammer would help him. Could come in handy for me too if I could find one.

About a year ago, after a lifetime of using hammers weighing anywhere from 16oz (all-round use, including in the shop) to 28oz (backwhen I worked as a framer), I bought this Vaughan 10oz rip hammer ...

... and it's one of the handiest and most-used things I've ever added to my tool arsenal. Small hammers are definitely cool.

I think the craft stores would have them. LOML has one she uses for scrapbooking.

Nice. And when will the beautiful Velvet lined storage case for it be finished, Rod?

Saw that in the Lee Valley catalog that came the other day. Thought it looked pretty neat. Glad to hear it works well. Might pop for one myself. Doesn't everyone need a little gift for themselves now and then??

I have a small hammer I milled myself from square steel bar stock about... 18 years ago. The head is square rather than round, and it is a cross peen, not claw. I use it whenever a lighter touch is needed. Will see about posting a pic or two.

After I finish puting 10 coats of tung oil on the handle

Then, actually, it will hang above the bench within easy reach - so there!

Nice find. A small hammer is one of those things you don't know you need until you get one.

BTW, I'm glad to see the pic is from the LV catalog — After seeing pics of your shop, if your fingernails looked like that, I'd just have to sell all my tools and take up tatting!
