My new Sears 16" Scroll Saw with tilt arm

searched scrollsaw comments last night and decided I would buy a sears scroll saw which happened to be on sale through tomorrow. It was $70 off so that made it $200

Has anyone got experience with this model?
Was planning on unpacking it tomorrow and start a honey do project but thought it might be a good idea to check and see if anyone thinks I should return it unopened.....

By the way, I think the LOML is finally getting wise about asking for me to do projects as it seems some new tool is always required to complete her project....Not sure how much longer I can get by with it but so far it has worked well....Ha

Sears has a worry free return policy. Use it a while, and if you don't like it, take it back. At most they will charge you a restocking fee, and that is only after so many days. I forget how many, but it says it all on the back of your receipt.

I looked at this model when I was shopping. Eventually went with Sears's 18" model with the standard tilting table, as I won't be doing much other than 90-degree work, and the unit you're looking at has a lot more bulk in the arm section, making maneuvering the workpiece and vision a little more difficult. As I recall, the tilt adjustment is in the rear on yours, and that seemed awkward to me. My 18" also came with a foot switch, and uses both pin-type and non-pin-type blades. Was also cheaper at the time.
...eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!

Two cents - You will tire of blade changes with a pin-type blade machine quickly. For the same price - Sears has ther 18" model available. I don't have experience with either of these units. Once you *do* get a scrollsaw - I'd highly recommend http://www.mikesworkshop.com/ for blades. In fact, Mike sells an assortment pack of blades, and "The Scrollsaw Workbook" for under $25 -- which is a great deal.

G'luck with the saw either way -

          Hi,
And thanks for the good comments. I went to Mikes web page and the first thing I saw was his comment to make sure you get a scroll saw that takes pin less blades and sure enought mine takes Pin blades only....
I was about to box it up and take it back when I stumbled on to this device for converting to pin less blades so I think I will try this and see how it works.
