The dark side is calling me!

Ever since that stupid post in Bargain Alerts on the $500 deal on the Craftsman zipcode saws (22124), I have been hearing the dark side calling my name.

Went into the local Sears and was shot down. I just can't seem to get it out of my head. To make matters worse went into the local Woodcraft today and ran accross this:

The boss has given the okay, but has anyone heard anything about them?

From what I've read, it's a fine saw.
Do a search on Woodnet, I believe several of the frequent posters have that one.
    Good luck with your decision.

Recently 'went CI' myself. But one of the BT's is staying in the shop alongside the new saw. Have the advantages of both that way.

As far as the Jet you are looking at -- it seems to get good reviews.

That's good to hear, I was pretty impressed with the SMT this thing has.

The one in Woodcraft was the 30", but I am more interested in the 52" so I can incorporate a router table into it. The 52" vs. the 30" isn't that much difference in price either. From the looks of it too Woodcraft beats out Amazon in price.

Gonna give it some hard thought, thanks everyone!

I don't see what the problem is. Just do what we tell our children to do - just say no! See simple once you get a grip on yourself. Really, that is one nice saw. If I was more of a hard core woodworker I might even be tempted. Good luck on your decision.

I'd post a question over on Woodnet on the Jet Supersaw. Seem to recall some issues with the sliding table. This TS is not a cabnet saw is it? Amazon is not showing the price, but, can't you get a nice Cab saw for the same price?

The saw looks good. Though it is one of the things I'd likely never buy. The BT works great for me, and if I ever decide to upgrade due to higher budget/shop space, it will be to something like Grizzly 1023SLX...

That is, if I ever go to dark side, I'll settle for nothing less than Sith Lord.

As long as you are happy with the fence then go for it. The fence was the only short coming of my Jet JWTS - 10JF. That is why I got the zip code saw (that and the incrediable deal). The JWSS fence is a different fence and presumably much better than what is on the JWTS. I can tell little difference between the 22124 1 3/4 hp versus Jet 1 1/2, so I assume the motor in the JWSS will be more than sufficient.

What is the price at Woodcraft?

How much is it at woodcraft?????
the biggest reason I bought the craftsman was the beismeyer fence!!!
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
Plus its was cheaper than the delta with no legs on the end.
Dust collection is almost perfect. A little slips through on the bottom and leaves tiny piles by the corners and a little comes out the front. I didn't get it as cheap as others but It was $850 with a 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty (covers everything except the blade) That was $85 I think but if my kids ever break the fence or something stupid its covered. Thats the reason I got the warranty. They don't really mess with my tools besides hammers and wrenches but you never know.

$1299 at Woodcraft I believe and now Amazon is showing the same price.

Have read some reviews on it (so many I have got a headache) and there seems to be some critical problems with it.

                        1. The blade height adjustment belt seems to break easily. From what I have read owners are having a difficult time getting the replacements and once they do it's a pain to install.

                        2. The fence. I noticed it at Woodcraft too, but figured it was just new and not adjusted correctly, but it was a little hard to get it to lock. I have read that it slips while ripping and it also jumps when locking it down. According to what I have read as well JET is addressing the problems and will offer parts for the fence to existing owners at a price. My opinion as well as the others is why charge you for the mistakes they made with it's design?

None the less, the dark side is still calling my name! It likely won't be the JET at the moment. Delta or Craftsman maybe, the quest continues....

Why? You need to put the BT3100 in a decent cabinet/base setup and add the extension rails but, once you do, what do you gain by going to any of the other saws? A little bit of SMT capacity? A little bit of power? They are not worth the ~$700 price difference to me. They will not be more accurate. Nothing that will work on 120V will be much more powerful. You have to make yourself an extension table for the BT3100 for it to have a good sized top but you have to make an extension table for the others with 52 inch rails. To each his own but I do not see the point. There are many other tools I would buy before I thought about a more expensive table saw.

Ya, there is no way at $1299. That price point is where you start getting into decent cabinet saws. Heck, for list price of $849 for the craftsman you get full cabinet, easy to adjust TS and wonderful fence.

That Jet appears to be the older style Supersaw, which didn't get alot of great reviews compared to other hybrids. If the price is right it might be worth a look, but Workbench rated it 4th out of 4 saws behind the 22124, GI 50-220, and DeWalt 746. There were some known problems with the belt on the raising mechanism. The fence was often criticized as being subpar to other fences of that price range but it seems to work. They have a newer version that has a full enclosure and a Biesemeyer style "Exacta" fence that has alot more appeal to me.

Love my 22124....quiet, powerful, rock steady, easy to align, and it just feels right.
