Spray guns HVLP, LVLP, Turbine, Compress??

I am getting ready to purchase my first spray gun and I am looking for recommendations. I will first be using it to spray a dye on my maple table that I am building If I cannot get a gel stain to apply without blotching. I would also like to use it for poly, stain, etc. I currently have a small 6 gallon pancake compressor that has a rating of: 4cfm @ 40psi or 3cfm @ 90psi.
Does anyone have recommendations?? Has anyone used a LVLP gun?

1 of the 2 HVLP Turbine sprayers that HarborFreight sells is very well though of. I have one and have gotten good results using it. Rockler sells the same unit but the on sale price at Rockler is the regular price at HF.

I have a similar size compressor and use it with a Wagner HVLP conversion gun. I bought mine from Gleempaint. It is about the least expensive gun that you can get a wide range of needles for. It is about $125. I used it on only one project so far and it worked well. Most HVLP guns need more air than my little compressor makes but the Wagner did not.

I have the HF and the Wagner, go with the deal at Gleem. Good info there too.

I have the HF turbine. Once you get the hang of it, it works quite well.

              This one:

              http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44677

I've never seen it priced @ $99.99 though. It was always $79.99 or less.

Not a lot of adjustment. It puts out an oval shaped pattern that can be rotated (horizontal, vertical, etc..) If also has an air flow adjustment. I think that's about it.

What do you spray with it and how is the clean up? Is the overspray less than a spray can?
                Thanks again,
                Mike

I have that one also. Actually the flow adjustment is paint flow. Air flow is a constant flow from the turbine. The spray pattern tends to be a bit larger than a spray can. Overspray is greatly reduced. Fan is controlled by rotating the spray head you can get a spot spray (no fan) in between the vertical and horizontal setting. Mine came with an extra flow needle for thinner paints.

Overall after a learning curve the unit does a fine job. As with any sprayer, high or low pressure it becomes a matter of developing a working knowledge of the gun and good technique.

I have the HF Turbine 44677 as well. I've used it for only 1 project so far, but it did a good job once I got used to it.

The only real peeve I have with it, is the air is always running through the spray nozzle, you just control the liquid being injected into the air stream. It's minor and I got used to it, but I still worry about something else getting caught in the air stream and getting blown onto my project- but not enough to stop using it.

And if memory serves, it is on sale for $69 until the end of the month...even better!

I've sprayed oil based paint, shellac and poly. I've even sprayed latex, but it's not ideal for that. Clean up is the same as any other spray gun I assume, but I don't have any experience with any other guns.
