Mobile base for WD Sander: Step 1 complete

Notes:

• Legs 1-5/8" square. Rails 1-3/4" x 3/4" (Oz) Victorian Ash. Joined with Woodhaven (bit+) biscuits
• Top 3/4" MDF, shelf bottoms 1/4" MDF
• All joined with Yellow glue (Titebond II), no hardware.
• Top and shelf bottoms prevent horizontal racking.

Step 2 (in progress)

• Wiring for simultaneous WDS/Shopvac on/off.
• Enclosing (1/4" MDF), will prevent vertical racking.

1) I've yet to actually buy wood o/t sheet stuff, I'm curious as to the cost of supplies?

2) are those 'stem casters'? Never mind. I now see the plate. But, how sturdy do 'stem casters' end up being...ball park. My office chair has them and they hold my somewhat considerable mass yet intuitively, they seem insufficient for tool carts.

3) I assume the 1/4" MDF is in a dado/groove?

And this may be the first eveidence that your projects actually go through stages, instead of spinging fully formed from a lumber pile, with finish and everything!

1) Oz prices wont mean much, maybe the USA guys can give you an idea. I would guess our Vic ash = maple in price?

2) Each (lockable) swivel caster is rated for 80 lbs! WDS weighs 104 lbs.
IMHO Stem casters are for "light duty" only - and are not lockable.

3) No - simply glued on the bottom of the rails.

Ah Rod, the stuff you put tools on would be a welcome addition to most living rooms.
