    6 1/2" Stacked Dado

The only place I've seen a 6 1/2" Stacked Dado mentioned is on this Forum!
Has anyone EVER seen one offered for sale?
If so, where and by whom?

I did a quick search and actually found one by Ryobi for the BT3000, it was not for sale anymore though. Also found an Irwin but same thing.

        6 1/2 Freud

I have a 6 1/2 inch Freud SD206 stacked dado set that I bought at Amazon.com about 2 months ago. Great blade -beutiful flat bottomed cuts.
Easy to assemble with penty of spacers and a convenient chart to get you close to the width you want.

I have the Forrest Woodworking 6.5". It cost a small fortune, and I barely ever use it. Cuts clean-bottom dados with minimal tear-out. But stacked dados take a long time to setup. So I use a router for dados these days.

          Thanks,
          Phil

            6" seems common size for dado set. I don't think I've seen a 6 1/2" set.

              The SD206 is a 6" set and not 6 1/2".

                George,

Out of curiosity, why the extra 1/2"? Just more depth on a saw that can't take an 8" set?

Yep the Freud is advertised as 6". I thought it was 6.5. mea culpa.
Actually I went out and measured mine and it measures 6.25. I can't see why it would make much difference. After all what's a 1/2 inch between freinds!! --

Woops, my Forrest is a 6", as well. Just proves that I had more money than brains, and now I have neither. ;-)

                      Here's why I'm looking

I'm thinking of putting together a Torsion Box workbench Top made with 2 X 4 (3.5") spacers.
A 6" Dado set won't do the trick and an 8" set is NOT recommended for the BT3X00 Table Saw.

A Saw Blade can "expose" 3 9/16"ths on a 10" Saw Blade, which means that 2 7/8" is needed for the center portion of the Blade and not available for cuts.

                      A 6" Dado Set gives you the following Depth-of-cut numbers: 6 - 2 7/8 = 3 1/8" devided by 2 = 1 9/16" (Depth of Cut on a 6" Dado set).

To Half Lap a 2 X 4, you need to cut a notch that is 1 3/4" deep, or 3/16ths more than a 6" Dado is capable of cutting.

I own a 6" Dado Set (SD206) and it won't quite make the trip!

Hence the inquirey about a 6 1/2" Stacked Dado Set.

My only other choice is to reduce the Spacer height by 1/2" to 3", not something I really want to do if I can help it.
