    Dwight,

The Hitachi at Lowe's does look very nice, so I'd go along with the suggestion to look at that first. Then, take a look at Harbor Freight if there's one near you. I purchased the 13" 16 speed benchtop there this fall, and so far it's been a great machine for about $120 on sale and with 20% off coupon. There is a floor standing version for a little more money too. The large benchtop at Harbor freight has the same head as one of their floor units. It has a good low speed range. Overall, a great benchtop unit.

I own the larger Shop Fox bench top drill press that I am happy with. It is a heavy well built machine that has a 3 1/2 spindle capacity. The shop fox has a built in oscillating spinde sander feature which is kind of neat. I bought mine through the www.Tool-corral.com in Ellenville NY for about $200.00 a few years ago. This item is also available through Grizzly.

I believe the larger bench top model from Ryobi (DP150?) is in your price range (about $150.00). This has a 3 1/2 spindle travel and is a nice unit for the money. Ryobi is supposed to be coming out with a new variable speed model similar to what Delta has. I would be on the lookout for the new Ryobi model or for possible close out sales on the current model.

        Decisions, decisions...

        Hi folks,

First, thank you all very much for your suggestions and recommendations. I've decided to to purchase the Ryobi DP120, a 12" bench-top model, as it appears to fit most of the considerations brought out by your posts and my budget. I'm also the possesor of a rare, original 20% coupon, so I'm off to HD for the BT3100 and the DP .

Thanks again everyone. I'll be back.

        Regards,

        Dwight

After you get a chance to use it, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion of the Ryobi drill press.

Dwight, I'm in the same boat. Did you end up getting the DP120 and how would you recommend it?
