    grizz also!

I also third (or fourth or fifth or etc.) the Grizz G0555 ultimate bandsaw. Don't know what's so ultimate about it, but it is great nevertheless. Nice green and cream colors, stamped brass-esque nameplate, at least 4 warning notices stickered all around it, red blade guard, and the website embossed on its stand, in case you forget!

Seriously, I like a lot. It might be the BT3x00 of bandsaws.

I'd have to mildly disagree with Terry. IMO, the nicest 14" bandsaw out there is the Powermatic. But considering that those suckers cost more than twice as much as my Grizzly G0555 cost me, I'm perfectly willing to "get by" with what I have.

One thing I've learned, in the not-quite-two-years I've owned my G0555, is that proper setup is KEY with a bandsaw. The best bandsaw in the world won't cut worth a d*mn if it's not properly tuned. (Yes, this is a backhanded way of saying that I learned this lesson the hard way.) Proper setup is not difficult and not all that time-consuming, but it must be done, and it's something you have to stay on top of ... every time you change blades, every time you make a big adjustment to the upper guide post, every time you tilt the table.

I'm pretty sure that there is something in the safety section of the instructions not recommending that. It is pretty heavy if it rolls over on your and watch out when it gets turned on.

Keep talking like that around the old lady, and you will! LMAO.
I'm about to buy one as well, and this has erased all doubt about the G0555.

Why does Lorena Bobbit spring to mind?

Bandsaws in general tend to be bed hogs.

The 14" Sears seems much better than the 12". Cooling blocks (12") verus nice bearing rollers on 14".

Like I said, I have the craftsman 14". So far my only regrets are the cheesy colors and the odd blade size. The odd blade size makes it so that I have to get my blades specially made, which I do at the timberwolf welding facility here in Pittsburgh, so it's no biggie for me.

I would say that the 14" is better than the 12" because of the horsepower argument. If you are going to resaw, that extra 1/4 horsepower will make a big difference.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful responses to my earlier questions. My decision about wheter to purchase the 12" or 14" Craftsman was made easy. Due to a bargin alert from another poster, I was able to purchase a 14" floor model for $240.00 on closeout from a Sears Essentials in NJ. Dumb luck on my part.

I have not turned on the saw, but so far I am impressed with the overall quality. The only thing that does not seem top notch is the trunnion casting. It does appear to be cast iron. Not sure what the metal is. Would be intersted if others know.

Even at $400.00 this saw seems like a very good value. It is a heavy beast to lift, even when the stand and cast iron table are removed from the saw. I cannot image moving the origianl box.

When did you get it? I was there about 3:00 yesterday with a U-Haul with intentions of taking every one they had on premises.

BTW anyway you can post a copy of the receipt under the bandsaw thread in bargin alerts? I doubt local store will match but someone is telling me that they got a local store to match the $499 TS deal I got at the NJ store!

I called the store first thing wed a.m. and purchased it over the phone. Then picked it up last night. I have posted my receipt in bargain alerts. Good luck getting a price match.

Good job. Lucky I didn't have them hold the ones in stock for my U-Haul! Lol!
