    Depth Stop - HF Mortiser

Have any of you improved the depth stop on your Harbor Freight mortiser (#35570)? The plastic pinch clamp depth stop slides too easily to be effective.

edit -- looks like I can't display the image on the HF site, so here's the link ...

Looking for a simple fix that doesn't involve drilling the body of the mortiser. Otherwise, I guess I'll cut blocks to size and attach the column between the body and the base. Perhaps with a screw to fine tune.

    Thanks,

This mortising machine is on sale right now so I've been looking at it.

Did you find any solution to your problems? Is it worth buying ? Or should I hold out until I can afford a different model ?

Would love to hear your opinion of it after you've been working with it a while.

    Thanks,
    Steve

      Steve:
For my level of use, the HF mortiser works fine --- especially at the price w/20% off coupon.

My fix for the depth stop isn't pretty, nor is it adjustable. But it elimated slipping. I cut a piece of PVC to the height that I needed. Split it down the middle. Wrapped it around the support column between the base and the plastic stop. Held the two halves together with tape.
