I have noticed that Canadian Tire sells many re-branded Ryobi tools.

#1 I have a planer just like that --except mine doesn't have a name on it. Have had reasonably good service from it although I don't have much to compare it to except a very small Makita that is about 15 years old. If you purchase it, be sure to get information on where you can obtain replacement knives -- turns out mine (and probably the one you linked to above) will take the Jet knives.
Not long after I got mine the drive chain lost a master link and messed up some of the gearing. I returned it to the local store where it was purchased and received a replacement unit that has been working with no problems ever since.

#2 No, that planer is a generic that is used by a number of resellers such as Grizzly ( http://www.grizzly.com/products/G0505 ). Ryobi also marketed one that is a clone to the one you linked to in non-USA markets.

hi, i agree with stan, i think this is a generic model not a re-branded ryobi planer. i have looked at this planer in canadian tire and also very closely at the ryobi planer at hd(almost bought one) and i noticed quite a few differences. i eventually bought a ridgid planer at hd.

i've never really noticed any rebranded ryobi tools at canadian tire but i'm going there this morning so i'm definitely going to have a closer look at some of there stuff.

Take a look at Busy Bee Tools. Their tools are generally pretty good although the mauals leave something to be desired.

They have a planer in the same price range. Check this link out before you buy the Canadian Tire generic brand:

Hey Tippy - I think you'll find that the CTC planers come from the Wilton Tool Group. WMH does their support. Phone a local store and tell them you want the customer service number for those (large) tools and they will give you the number - I don't have it any more. Ask for Tony (noticeable English accent). He is excellent and I'm sure can answer anything for you.
