The new issue of ShopNotes (vol 15 issue 86) has an interesting article on building a belt-driven drum sander attachement that hooks to the arbor on your TS. I imagine you could use the same plan and get a motor somewhere should you be inclined to build your own drum sander.
Tablesaw as drum sander

Yeah, that was my thought when reading through it. It seems like it wouldn't be worth the saved money for the motor to mount and unmount it. Although it is interesting to use the saw height adjustment as a belt tensioning mechanism. Wouldn't have through of that.Joe Sacher -
The article is really great in my opinion. My thoughts are that for cheap money you could get an inexpensive, used tablesaw and then it could be a dedicated setup. The only question I have is about how much power the motor needs for a belt sander. Depending on what current belt sanders have for power, you might even get away with a grinder motor but I think that would be pushing it.

I didn't think of that, Fred. But you could probably get a BT motor assembly pretty reasonable, when people are parting out. That would be a decent idea. My problem would then be shop space. But isn't it always.

Shopnotes seems like a good publication, I just signed up for a 2 year subscription after seeing this thread. Anyone know where I can get the plans for the homemade drum sander using the TS? It looks interesting and I happen to have a older Craftsman TS I'm not using at the moment. Thanks!Comment

I have not seen the ShopNotes issue but at a recent woodworking show I saw demo of the the ‘V-Drum Sander’. I think the thought behide it is similar to the table saw sander. Impressed me enough that ordered one of the kits a month or so back, although I have not even taken it out of the box yet. Anything that I have heard suggests that for the money it is a good setup. You build your own box and it is powered by a 1/3 hp furnace motor.

What kind of price did you get for 2 year? I have offer mailed to me for 6 issues for $24.95. That doesn't seem that great.Originally posted by ryan.sShopnotes seems like a good publication, I just signed up for a 2 year subscription after seeing this thread. I did it online at shopnotes.com, the 1 year (6 issues) was $24 and the 2 year (12 issues) was $34.00. I figured pay another $10 for double the issues.Originally posted by Jeffrey SchronceWhat kind of price did you get for 2 year? I have offer mailed to me for 6 issues for $24.95.
