    Question about dust collector bags

I bought one of the GMC dust collectors that were on close out at Lowes a while back. It's the small portable model that connects to one machine at a time. Wanting to improve the dust sitution I ordered a 3 micron replacement bag from Grizzly tools. I ordered the one that they say fits their G1163 model(also a small portable model with a 4" outlet). When I received the bag, it's opening is about 14" which didn't seem right so I called Grizzly Tech Support but they say it's the right bag and to just gather the bag around the outlet using a clamp or strap. It seems it wouldn't be possible to get a good enough seal by gathering to support 3 micron filteration.
Has anybody gone thru this? If so what kind of clamp/strap did you use and how well did it work?

    Thanks

Did I read that right? They told you to put a bag with a 14" diameter opening onto a 4" diameter pipe?

I wouldn't accept that, and I dont' know who would. Call 'em back, you'll more than likely get someone that'll set it right.

    Good luck,
    Tom

      Don,

When I put better bags on my Delta, I deliberately bought an oversized top bag and had LOML do a little sewing and cutting to make it the right size where it connects. It sounds like you either need to return the bag or do something similar. You are thinking correctly, if you gather it together it will leak. I bought my bags from Highland Hardware. Their prices seemed reasonable and they have nice bags. The loop for the clamp is not individual loops it is a sleeve that covers all of the clamp except the part you must operate. This was helpful with bag installation.

I did the same thing but got a bag with a 6" opening and did strap it on it works well. But I now have a 2 hp HF DC w/ Wynn filter conversion.

Max, did you get the bag with the 6" opening from Grizzly? If so what model was it?

Filter bag for GMC Dust Collector

I got the same filter bag from Grizzley. I don't remember it being as big as 14", but I clamped it on with a big screw-type stainless steel hose clamp, and it works okay.

By the way, our Lowe's store here in Williamsburg, VA never has any of the real deals I read about on this forum. I got mt GMC DC for $30 sans filter bag (it was the floor model) at a store in the Richmond suburbs. The store here still has four still in the boxes, but $87 is as low as they've gone on them. They think $10 off is a clearance price.

Well for what's it's worth, I tried Grizzly tech support again and basicly got the same answer, "gather the opening of the bag around the outlet". I may try getting my wife to do a little resewing to help the problem or I may just return the bag. The 3 micron bag from Grizzly was only $14.95 but I'm pretty dissapointed that the bag doesn't fit anybetter than this. This is my first dealings with Grizzly but it may be my last

Process Systems is a company that is OEM for a lot of DC manaufactorers. They custom made bags for me. I will be posting much more on that endeavor next week as I complete my DC system. However I am sure that they can make this bag for you at a very, very reasonable price.

                  http://www.processsys.com/

processsystems@rcn.com is email for John the owner. He is very nice and would be more than happy to help you out. Shoot him an email with specs and he will price it for you. He also sells on ebay under name processrobo. He uses 1 micron 16 oz polyester needlefelt which is the best you can get in a bag system I believe. He advised me today that he has reached out to the retail market right now as things slow down in winter months and he needs to keep his 6 ladies working.
