    Stupid Questions

I am new to this forum. I have sent several emails to the "contact us" address, but never heard from anyone. This has spanned over the last month since I joined. I found out on my own that in order to have a personalised avatar, I would have to make a donation. Now I need to know what I need to do in order to start a new thread? I guess I may have the wrong browser for this site. No, that can't be, because I am now posting a new thread.

Any advice or counsel will be greatly appreciated. I am a member on a few other forums, but never had this problem. I can't find any list of moderators either.

    Thanks

    Jarheadbigdaddy

I have no problem with that at all. Actually it is becoming more of a normal requirement than before. My problem started with the "contact us" hot link. I sent 2 other emails and never had a reply. But, I am glad someone has mad a response.

I have been to this forum many times and built several of the jigs that are posted here. I just recently decided to join and am having some difficulties getting all of the information I need to get going on it. I consider myself a decent carpenter, but as far as wood working goes, I am still a bit of a hack. I am hoping the exposure to a site like this will help me improve my knowledge and abilities. (WOW! That was a mouthful even for me)

      Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Jarhead. I'll alert the forum owner to the contact us link not getting a response just in case he did not receive your query. Now for the real answer to your question..... at the bottom of a forum page you will see "view Forum Leaders" click on that to view who all the forum staff are as well as a list of patrons.

You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number

Thanks for the compliments. I new from reading over the past years that this would be a good forum to join. Full of good folks. I was just a little frustrated with the inability to start a new thread. Maybe you should have a place for newbies like me to find out all the ins and outs of the forum. I realise a lot of this happens because in the beginning as the forum develops and starts to take shape, people are already aware of procedures. Unfortunately, a guy like me comes along and cannot figure out how it works. I am a member of several forums, the latest of which is Tinboats. Everything on the other forums is very concise and clear to an idiot like me.

So, am I to understand that I will be able to start a thread after I have made a certain number of posts?

Either way, I am glad to be here in the presence of so many talented people. I know this because I went to the gallery and looked at some of the projects you all have posted. It is obvious I will learn a lot here.

Thanks again to all of you.

You are correct. With a post count of 5, you are past boot camp and into the thick of it.
                      Welcome aboard.

I'm still not sure (or clear) on how or when I will be able to start a NEW THREAD if I have a project I want to share. I have no problem making a donation, but I just want to get the requirements clear before I commit to the whole nine yards.

I did find the list for the "Leaders". Thanks for that Black Walnut!!

My signature line on another forum also has a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!"

Thanks again for all the help.

I feel your pain, Brudder! I was very confused in the beginning, and I'm probably still not doing it the easiest way, but here goes:

In the wood grain bar on top of the page, click on "forum"
This will take you to the list of all possible forums.
Scroll down till you find the one that best fits what you have to say and click on it.
This will bring you to that forum; just before it says 'threads in Forum', on the left is 'new thread'. That's the ticket!
I know this sounds convoluted, and there might be a better way, but this will definitely get you there.
                          Oh, and welcome aboard!
Oh, and myself and a few other guys here who shall remain nameless are in charge of 'asking stupid questions', and in fact have the market cornered. You'll have to figure on something else:-)

                            Herb Fellows:

Thank you for the insight and good directions. It is a fairly discrete location for starting a new thread, but I accept it as it is. Most of the other forums have "new thread" even in your personal account area. That would be a good add-on for this site. Not a problem. I really appreciate the help. I will ask another "stupid" questions when one comes to mind.

I knew this would be a good forum for an old fart like me.

Thanks to all of you for your patience and help. I was getting ready to ask one of my grandkids to find it for me (LOL). I know they are more intuitive about these things than I am.

My favorite example of how "the world" doesn't get it.

On NPR, a story of veterans coming home trying to find jobs,
"Vet goes up to a recruiter for a corporation and gives her his background of having run a combat unit with all the logistics in Afganistan, and everything that goes along with it and the young thing asks, "Yes, but have you ever had a real job?" This was from the vet talking about how hard it is back home...

                              Now let's build something...
