Smilies won't work

I haven't been able to get the smilies to work for the past couple of days. I did a search which led me to be sure that the block "Disable smilies in text" was unchecked - it was/ is. Does anyone know what else I may be missing (no smart cracks about that!).

OK, this is weird. You came in OK, Tom - I can receive but not send. Now, when I tried to post a Quick Reply **that** function wouldn't work either and I had to use the Post Reply option.

Another test

Hmmmm, it's my browser, folks. Sorry for the imposition. I had shifted over to Firefox a couple of months ago because of some corruption in IE. Well, now IE, which I'm using now, is working OK and FF is giving me a fit. OK, I'm outta here.

The window for "Quick Reply" is at the bottom, but the "message" in the 'Quick Reply' is NOT referring to itself but the three icons in the post box at the bottom right of each individual post such as "Quote" or " (multi-quote) or the Quick Reply Icon itself. The bottom box that says QR that looks like a reply box does not do anything on my browser but the icons in a posted box does.
