Now that you solved the smilie mystery for me, here's another; how do I get my ugly mug to show up in my posts?

If you're talking about using your photo as your avatar (in the upper left of the post header), you can upload it as a custom avatar. Once you are a subscribed member the permissions are changed to allow custom avatars, if you're not already.

If you want it in your signature I think you can add it to your sig with the image code. [ img] url to photo [/ img] The code goes in there without the spaces.

Unfortunately, you have to pay your pound of flesh to have your photo displayed (and you don't even have to rob a bank).

But if you want to have some inane signature wording, look at the attached screen shot, it will show you where to go to accomplish it
