    Spam PM?

I received a PM from someone who just became a registered user 3 days ago., and it looks a little phishy. The message reads, "Hi, I'm new here, how's it going?" The signature includes an Albert Einstein quote, and a link to the individual's web page. I didn't click on it, but a quick glance at the URL tells me that it's for site hosting.

No profile information has been added, not even the city, state, or country.

Am I correct in thinking this is bogus, and should be deleted? Does this kind of thing happen frequently?

It happened about a week ago on the Ridgid site. The moderator there immediately banned the poster for life.

I got the same PM today. Didn't go to the site, but did PM a reply.

Send a PM to Sam Conder or Black Walnut. Either of those two can block the user.

Be sure you forward the spammed PM along with the full user name of the sender. I will gladly ban users that spam our members.

Sorry, I deleted it before I heard about forwarding it to you. I looked in the user list to see if I could find the name, but either my memory is failing me, or the user's name has already been removed.

                  Hi.

                  I got it too.

                  The posters name is/was Jessie.

It is in my PM box.

How do I post it to Sam or Black Walnut?

Can the Mods access my PM box? - if so please feel free.

                  I hate this C--p.

                  Les.

Yep, that's the one. No wonder I couldn't find it; it doesn't show up in the member's list. How can someone have a member ID that allows them to send PMs, but not show up on the member list?

Same reason why guys are always chatting-up my wife when I'm standing right next to her, and I'm interesting, too.

Wonder how many got that message. I did too - but didn't occur to me that it was spam, just a new user trying to get grounded with standing members. I posted a PM reply, but heard nothing back. Based on some (but not all) getting the note, I wonder if the sender didn't just "click" on members that were active during the time he/she was online.

No, I do not have access to your PM's. Push the forward button and send it to Black wallnut.

Can you say busted? Jessie's user account has been terminated. Spammers do not last ling around this forum.

When a member joins , never makes a post, sends a few PM's that include his/ her URL I suspect spam. Sending to more than one member is not exactly easy. Since other forums using the same software also have the same exact user-name sending the same message there seems to be a way to exploit a vulnerability that I was not aware of.
