    EBay Cyclone-almost done

Well, I took a chance on one of those EBay Cyclones for $139. Won't know how well it works until the sealant is dry and I finish running the hose/pipes. It does seem to run smooth, but won't be able to tell how effective it is for a few days.

Anyhow, here's how it came out with my HF DC.

I'm sure it won't be up to Mr. Pentz standards, but then I'm not expecting it too, just trying to save some space.

Nice installation Bob, let us know how it works.

Whats the grey stuff that you mounted it all to?

Interesting setup. Sometime, maybe you could show some pictures on how it all went together? Looks like a great installation.

I don't have pics of the assembly but it is based on the [u]Wood</u> magazine homebuilt cyclone plans.

The grey stuff is a mix of 3/4" OSB and 3/4" Ply. I wish I would have used all ply as it would have been lighter (and easier to hang). It was the paint I had laying around from when I built my mobile BT3 base.

Interesting! What are you using for a filter?

The filter I'm using is a Hastings filter from Penn State Industries, model CYFILT. It is one of the ones recommended in the [u]Wood</u> mag plans.

Anyone know about using tractor trailer truck filters for a cyclone DC?

David that is a good question! Living in a rural agricultural area, those filters are used on large tractors and combines too.
                So easily available.
A large portion of those filters are built at Donaldson mfg, in Grinnell, Ia. I would think one would need to get the micron specs, and any filter that would eliminate the smallest would work fine?

In that same venue, there is a farm machinery salvage yard in my town. I have often wondered why a cyclone from a grinder/mixer could not be adapted to a home built system?

I asked that question once and was told the dimensions of the cyclone, from a grain truck, would require a large motor/impeller combination than would be practicle.

I tried to find info about truck air filters on the web, and came across Donaldson Powercore air filters. Look like a real improvement over the standard pleated cellulose or even pleated synthetic fiber filters.

Donaldson does make a good product.
When Farmhand(Farm Machinery Manufaturer)I worked for for 14 yrs, was bought and closed down by a company in Texas.
Many of my friends, co-workers went across town and are working in the Donaldson factory.
The Farmhand Grinder/Mixer was the first on the market.
We put a cyclone on every machine, it used about a 14" cast aluminum blower that was chain driven off the hammermill main shaft.
I have never tried to compute the rpm, after the 540rpm pto drive was run through all the belts, pulleys and chains?
But know the entire unit could be driven with 45 PTO Hp.
