Lumber Racks

These lumber racks are pretty strong when coupled with the garage studs. When not in use, they fold up with the option of hanging pipe clamps on them. The plans came from a Wood Magazines insert titled, Best Workshop Jigs and Organizers.

that looks like part of the WW bundle at lumberliquidators. if so, how pleased were you, and was it a good deal. i'm very curious because i want to pick one up this weekend here in dallas (the home of inflated wood prices). the racks look great.

Coach- I was very pleased about my purchase. I got a bunch of wood that I would have never purchased before including purpleheart, mahogany, and brazillian cherry. Though the longer boards are not as thick as I would of liked, it will still provide for a lot of smaller projects.

The Larger 6/4 and 4/4 stuff will be used for turning(first try) and for legs of upcoming projects.

I even used some of the bad pieces as firewood, and they were worth it just for that.

Are they stocking any bundles near you John?

John - Just another question. I've got a Lumber Liquidators about an hour or so away and was curious as to the size of the load. I have a small Toyota pickup and was wondering if that would handle the load or if I should borrow a trailer.

Monte- The Lumber Liquidators, when I went in, was buy first and wait for the special order(10-14 days). If you cant make it out this way, I can try making it out your way in the summer, bringing only a 1/4 - 1/2 per time.

MikeMcCoy- The pack was a good 1/2 ton(1000lbs) and about 8 feet long. I would reccomend borrowing a friends/family members full size pick up (f150 dodge 1500 etc) or using the trailer.

I may go ahead and order a bundle and make the trip over there with my truck. I'll check and see if I can find a map to their location.

Easiest way would be to take 94 East to 275 North. 275 North to 96 East. 96 East exit at Inkster. Go south for 1/25 mile, its on the left hand side. Yellow sign in front.

Mike I picked a pack from my local lumber liquidators using my Toyota Tacoma. The only thing was it could not be dropped into the bed as a pack. I had to open the pack hand load it and tie it down for the trip home.

Thanks Max - Same truck here so that might make for a quick lumber trip. I had a decent hardwood supplier here but he's started specializing in commercial accounts and us small retail guys lost our source.

I am picking my pack up Monday morning. Looked at it today and there are some nice long what looks like 1" x 4" boards don't know what they are, they are red in color. The rest I did not get a good look as they were busy with a parking lot sale. I have Toyota Tacoma Double cab (5ft bed) so I am renting a trailer to haul it home with. Can't wait to see what I have. With my woodworking skills at the moment this a good way to get some hardwood and if I screw it up, I can have fire next winter and not feel that I have wasted money. I guess the truck gets parked outsid for a while.

i got my lumber pack home, unloaded, and started joining the faces. looks like i mostly got junk. i had some 1x6x8' walnut that was eaten up with worms. a few nice, but small pieces of brazillian cherry. a few scraps of mahogany, some 2x2x4' red oak, and a few i haven't identified yet.

seems like it is pretty hit and miss on these. i don't know if i'll be up for trying again.
