    To paraphrase Jimmy Dean.....

"Steel Men, Workin' on a SHOP of steel..."

The saga started 4 years ago.

This forum is for any topic that you would normally talk about at the office "around the coffee pot". Jokes, tall tales, and true stories are welcome as long as they are clean and in good taste. I only ask that you steer away from topics on religion or politics. Go ahead and pull up a chair and pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the conversation.

After several financial set backs and pitfalls, I am still working out of the Playpen and the building still looks like this.

Wall panels, doors, gutters, and windows. There are 10 4-0x3-0 sliders and 1 3-0x3-0 single hung window behind the OSB panel that I picked up free off C/L. I also got small window AC and a large (~2 ton) wall unit in the same deal.

As most of you know, we lost my step father earlier this month. My sister is executress of the will and is working to close out the estate. Yesterday I got an initial check in the mail. (There may be another, smaller check for the balance of my share once everything is taken care of.) The wife already had ideas on how to spend a lot of it, including a deposit of 'play money' in her personal checking account. That got nixxed quickly.

The smart move would be to use the money to liquidate as many of our debts as possible, but...

Mother often said that I needed a proper shop for my woodworking and, thanks to her and Barney, that is going finally to happen! Suffice to say that there is enough to put the shop up the way I want it, assuming it is structurally feasable. I will open another thread to do lot of brain picking of the collective expertise assembled here.

What I want is to add a second floor that will be a combination of office space, walk in storage room, and a 'Man Cave'. Something like this.

    Don,

I'll be down to help you road test that Man Cave as soon as it's done. Don't forget the Lay-Z-Boys and 56" plasma.

I love the 2nd floor of my shop; it's great for storage (2nd wood rack) and I have a metalworking vise and other not-used-often tools up there. Unfortunately, it's a sauna in the summer and a freezer in the winter. I have slabs of meat hanging in there now. During the summer it's pretty comfortable from 3 am to sunrise.

That second floor is handy. I don't have one but I know a person that does! OH to dream! Keep us posted on how well it goes!

I like a man who knows what wants! Perfect concept. I can't wait to see it come together.

No boob tube. One of the things I will be trying to get away from...

Stereo, girl posters, beer fridge, ladies on the wall, pool table, pictures of sexy girls.

Have you given pin-ups of bikinis any thought? My goodness, has it been four years since you did that deal? I must be getting old because that's a sure sign - time flying, that is. Have fun, Don.

Yes, it really has been 4 years.

As to the 'decorations', I have a couple of Marissa Miller / Harley posters ( She actually rides one), a pair of classic Vargas prints, a poster from Demi Moore's 'Stripper', and several beer posters. Should be a good start!

Just the other day I was wondering what happened to that building. At least the wait maybe worth it. Hope you can build it the way you want. Keeep us posted. Better build in a hoist to get that pool table up there, those puppies are Heavy!

Unfortunately, the logical side of my mind is starting to work on me. As much as I want to start calling contractors for estimates on the slab, common sense says to get some bills off my back.

A couple of years ago I discovered my wife had run up 3 credit cards to over $30,000. I can pay off 2 of those cards as well as a pair of smaller ones that are 12 month no interest purchases.

Add to that the fact that I need to work on 2 more important project. First, I need to install wider doors in the bedrooms and main bathroom to make it easier for her to more arund in her wheelchair. Because she also has COPD, the carpet needs to be ripped out and replaced with laminate flooring. The excess after taking care of the credit cards will come close to taking care of both of these priorities.

Looks like the building may have to lie there a while longer...
