    Ugh. More Shop Rewiring

Inspector was out doing an inspection on the shop electrical. He passed the trench last week so I could fill it. I had him check the rest of what I've done. Hedinged me on 2 items. The yellow sheathing on 1 20A circuit not visible inside the box on 2 boxes. These are old work type plastic boxes that I reused from elsewhere and the plastic clips in back are too sloppy. When the outlet went in, the cable got pushed out the back. I brought my brother's tools home last weekend and decided I want at least one more outlet on that wall so right now am thinking I will take everything surface mount. I don't want to tear into the wall yet again to fish wiring. I have most of what I need to do a surface mount anyway.

Electricians like to run conduit for surface-mount applications. It apparently suits their eye well.

I chose to use MC cable, which is an alternative that complies with code. It's easy to run and inexpensive, but does not have the polished industrial look of a well-done conduit installation.

    YMMV.

I think MC is the stuff I call BX. Armored cable. I remember there being a ton of it in the house I grew up in. Anyway, I think I will go with the conduit since I have most of the pieces and it just looks better.

        Right, armored cable.

If you have the conduit in hand then for sure that's a better approach.

FWIW, I think the rental of a conduit bender is about the same price as one el fitting. Just sayin'.

Funny, we've got a different definition for hickeys around here.

Hickeys, I remember those from when I was young.

                Sure you didn't mean DOO-hickeys??

I don't seem to run into too many good woodworking deals that I can take advantage of, but I have 1/2" and 3/4" or a 3/4" and 1" conduit benders that were purchased on clearance for $1.29 each (still has the sticker on one of them) before I owned a house... Never once used them for bending conduit for an electrical project yet (so apparently $1.29x2 down the drain), but they helpped with a halloween costume once
