Shop Cabinet upgrade (almost) no MDF

I decided to replace my "most used" cabinet above my bench. The new cabinet is deeper and taller.

The old one - inset door, 1/2" square "ridge" around the inside. Shelves 2-1/2" deep, no-mortise hinges:

The new one - 3/4" marine plywood cabinet, 2" x 3/4" clear pine door frame (Woodhaven biscuits), solid brass piano hinge mortised into both door and cabinet. Shelves 4-3/4" deep. 1/4" MDF back (sorry ). Finished with 3 coats of wipe-on poly.

Left= test piece, 2nd left= rebated for the hinge. Miters and slots cut before 1/8" roundovers and center decoration:

Woodhaven miter biscuit jig - as usual, takes longer to set up than to cut the slots:

Very nice cabinet. But NO MDF???? This begs the question:

What have you done with the real Rod Kirby?

You should sell off that "old junky one", probaly lead to a bidding war here from people looking to 'feel' more like Rod.

        Just an idea.

        Looks great.

Looks great Rod, didn't expect anything less from you. Like how sneaked in the customary MDF on the back wall.

Rod's cabinets look more orderly, sanitary, and efficient than those in some doctors' offices I've seen.

Beautiful...and Lee is absolutely right about the bidding war for the old ones.

I didn't pay attention to who posted it before looking and thought **** that's nice just like Rod would have. Then I noticed who posted it. I laughed and just smiled. Yes very nice work Rod. I should have guessed right off I guess. Funny.
