    New shop!

    Next major project underway...
I just had the chimney chase framed in... I'll be putting stone veneer on that... but this is the great project that's underway now... a NEW SHOP!

Putting it in the hay loft of the barn... which is nearly at grond level on the north side and 10 feet in the air on the south (a "basement" barn)... 30' X 32'.

Had to clear out tons of debris. Pigeon poop, feral cat scat, about two tons of hay.

    Here's the outside north end:

here's a panoramic view of the interior from the open door:

Here's where I'll be putting the "BEHEMOTH" (my 26" CI Silver Mfg. Band saw):

I think these old 2Xs will hold it... Don't you?

Well, you're right, they probably won't hold it... and the remains of the floor don't look so good either... but here's the plan...

Contractor's gonna put these in and a T&G plywood floor after tearing out the old joists and floor... which are rough sawn oak IINM... so I'll slavage as much of that as I can.

OOOH! I'm excited! I'm trying to plan where to put stuff once I get the remaining projects done on the house.

      Oakchas,
Have you tried one of the online pages from Grizzly and or Porter Cable to work on your layout for the floor plan? There was just a thread on this very subject a few weeks ago.

Does anyone else feel a really strong wind heading for Shellsburg?

Man! There is so much suction pulling your direction - I can feel the resultant winds here in North Carolina!

Congratulations - that is a huge project, but it will be a phenomenal workspace when you are done.

I would love to have that space. I'm sure it will make a great shop.
            Thanks again,

Looking good chas. They should be plenty strong. I've been told the trusses have better load bearing than plain 2x10. You've got a nice open space there. Any windows going iN?

Looks great!! Are your going to run the electric and DC plumbing thru the trusses?? I hope you are talking about insulating, those old barns don't have much more than thin wood for insulation.

Might want to consider a separate area walled off for the noisy things like DC and Air Compressor.

How much of that old Oak were you able to save?

Electric and DC trough the truss spaces. Not insulating yet... may later. Air compressor is in detached 3 car garage 25 feet away... buried lines to barn long time ago. DC probably in the basement of the barn.

As for he old oak... most of the joists were salvaged... some of the floor boards... most of the floor boards are 20" lengths now due to cutting with chainsaw. That's sad.. but it had to be done or it would have taken a lot more than a day to demo and install. Lot of material for small projects and boxes.
