    Jet Saw/Delta Mobile Base

I have a Delta 50-289 mobile base on order for a new Jet cabinet saw. while partially unpacking the saw yesterday, I started thinking about how best to arrange the extension table and the base so I could mount a cabinet for tools and came up with some questions:

    1) Is the portion of the mobile base that the extension table sits on beefy enough to hold a 200 pound cabinet with drawers and tools, or am I likely to bend something?

    2) Is there any reason I should not mount the extension table legs underneath the middle of the extension table instead of at the end? The reason I'm asking is because doing so would eliminate the need to modify the base by adding a couple of pieces to it.

    3) One annoying discovery is that the door that covers the motor is on the right side of the saw where it will interfere with add-on cabinets. Any reason other than personal preference not to mount the extention table to the left wing instead of the right? I suppose that also means mounting the rails differently too.

I have a 50-289 on a different saw but will try to help answer some of your questions.

    1. The extension is very beefy but it attaches to the main part of the base with two bolts that connect to the square tubing of the main base. Threaded inserts are inserted into the square tubing and provide some addidtional support to the square tubing. Once connected is fairly stable but if I stand on the extension close to the attachment points there is some flex at the joint. I don't think I would put a cabinet that heavy on mine.

    2. The legs for my extension are not mounted on the end they are inboard a few inches and I have not had any problems.

    3. The issue of the rails I will leave to you to resolve. As far as the question relative to the stand.. The mounting holes for the extension are only on one side not on both sides. You could install the saw and extension table in the stand "backwards" but then the wheels will be in the right and the extension lever on the step will be on the back side of the saw not the front. Take a look at the image at Amazon and you will see what I am talking about..
