I haven't read every reply, but I get the general drift.
You don't appear to state what the DC is for. Table saw/thicknesser or for power tools.
If its for power tools one 1400 watt vacuum cleaner and a Bill Pentz designed cyclone into a 20 gallon drum is sufficient. See this. The whole unit sits in a trolley that I can move anywhere in the shop I want.
Otherwise you need a dedicated Dust Collector and that of course needs some dollars. I use a 1 hp 750cfm dust collecter for the table saw and planers and it works well.
