    Shop Built Blast Gates

I recently picked up the HF Dust Collector and a new filter, now its on to hooking everything up. I have been looking (without much success) for ideas on how to make my own blast gates. I found this thread
http://www.bt3central.com/showthread...ake+blast+gate with some good pictures of Scottydont's gates. Are there any other designs / ideas out there?

    Thanks
    Matt

This is definitely a first. 24 hrs and 74 views later still no comments?

Friend's shop (so I don't have pictures) - homebuilt gates like Scotty's but substitute plastic slider between felt pieces which have first been glued to wood surfaces where slider operates and substitute strip of wood with finger holes running the other way for the end block screwed to the plastic slider - otherwise, just the same. Works beautifully.

I just use the cheap plastic ones from Woodcraft. They seem OK to me. Are you needing something better or just want to build your own? Which would be cool I guess I just personally have way to many other things I want to build - but that's me.

Just use the metal blastgates from Rockler. Seem to work ok. Way too many things to do before making homemade blastgates. How do you improve on those made by Scotty??

I was just trying to see if there were any other ideas out there. Scotty's certainly look like they will work well. Then I found the JET plastic gates on Amazon for $1.99. I've heard others talk about them getting plugged with dust, but for $2 a piece, I think they're worth a try.

If you lived around here I would sell you my plastic gates for less than $2 each. They are useful to get you up and running but I think you will come back to making some. They are a good use for plywood scraps and one of those times that home-built is clearly better than store bought.
