    Flip-Top Tool Stand

I'm looking for a stand for my 12" planer and cms. Has anybody made the Flip-Top Tool Stand from "The Complete Small Shop" from August Home Publications? I'm worried whether it would be sturdy enough and hold up for years of use. It does look like what I'm looking for if it would hold up.

    thanks,

I 'think' I remember the stand you are thinking about. I made one for myself years ago for my planer and a small hobby type circular saw. Here are some pics of what i made.

The top is 2" thick. The sides are 1 1/4" thick. The pivot is a solid rod. The mid and bottom shelves are 1/2 inch ply. The Swivel Stops at the four corners are to keep the top in place. The stand is mounted on 1 1/2 in wheels, two are swiveling. If I had to do it over, I'd use 2" or maybe 3" wheels. The 1 1/2" get hung up on the tiniest bit of trash on the floor. Having only two wheel that swivel makes getting the stand out of the tight place I park it a real pain in the rear.

Yes, I made one about 1&1/2 yrs. ago. I mounted my planer on one side
and 10" bandsaw on the other, it works great. eezlock

Have a 12" planer on one side, and a 6" wheel grinder + a belt / disc sander on the other. Works well. And I agree - get good quality 2" casters. Not the Lowe's cheapies.

Great! Thanks for the input. I'm also thinking of making the edges a few inches higher and putting folding wings on the sides for infeed/outfeed tables for the planer and cms.

            flip top stand

I have a flipping station for my CMS and 13" Planer.
It is made from extruded aluminum . Very sturdy.
Casters with locking brakes on the bottom.
My next add-on is the foldable wings on the side for additional support.

No worry of durability with this stuff.

Is there any movement / stability that would effect the quality / safety?

Anything NOT to put on a flip top tool stand, or something similar?

This is my flipping station from extruded aluminum.
CMS on one side and planer on other.

                    Very smooth rotation.
