    Tail Vise - Kirby style

I've beem pondering this for a while. What started out to be a prototype (David Marks?) ended up becoming real. It does what I wanted it to do:

Another method of utilizing bench dogs without a real Tail vise.

The foundation is a Veneer Press clamp - see:

Initial build - notice the complete set of plans (one page of sketches), on the right

Other views. I wanted to make sure I could dismantle the whole thing if needed. So wherever you see screws there is no glue. The "Business end" has 120 grit sandpaper glued on it. Guide rails are 3/4" hardwood dowels.

Covers on, closed; finished with 1 coat of wipe-on-poly, left unsanded to provide a bit of "grip, when clamping to the bench.

Open. Providing 4" of travel - plenty - I can always use spacer strips if needed.

    In action - it works

      Nice job, Rod.
Looks like you put in a lot of thought before you started cutting wood.
