    Notes learned moving my dc

Back in August I took apart the shop when I had movers come a pick up all my stuff. When I disassembled the DC I noted a couple of things I thought I would pass along. First off I have the 2HP HF DC with the Wynn filter (Donut conversion), and the neutral vane modification. I removed the 5->4 Y adapter on the intake and replaced it with a 6->5 inch metal HVAC reducer and ran all 6” HVAC ducting with drop down 4” hoses. I had 2 4” hoses to the DC. 1 under the saw and 1 into the dust port. Plus a 2 ˝ line to the shark guard.
This may have been a little too much piping to the BT3K, when I took apart my piping the overhead horizontal run between the Saw and the DC had about a ˝” of saw dust resting in the bottom. With all the runs to the saw and the 6” ducting I think my airspeed was too slow to pull all the dust to the DC.

When I took my filter off to prepare it for travel there was a lot of dust stuck inside the pleating. This model filter has diamond pattern metal screen around both the inside and the outside of the filter. I tried using my air compressor to clean it and that worked ok, but I found shaking it against the ground and putting the end of the leaf blower against the outside metal screen and then down the inside worked the best to get it clean.
And one more note, do not I repeat DO NOT attempt to clean the filter this way in you driveway with your wife’s black car parked nearby, especially if the windows are DOWN[B)]

Oh, oh. Sounds like something I would do.

That sounds like the model I had -- very frustrating. The smaller pleats, and their inaccessibility due to the inner screen are a killer.

I found that the bigger chips and shavings made a matrix for the finer dust to fill in and choke it. You can get most of the finer dust out (with compressed air and a struggle), but not so much the bigger stuff. And once that matrix of chips is there, it clogs up with fine stuff a lot faster.

I've heard Wynn has a bigger pleat model. And even though it's less filter area (IIRC), I bet it would perform better overall.

      Regards,
      Tom

Tom, I take it you don't have a separator in the line before the DC? I'm hoping my barrel will catch the bigger stuff.

Uhhh, yeah, I did. But, it wasn't appropriately sized for the task, given that it was getting scrubbed clean. So there's still hope.

My setup now, btw, is a bigger DC (Grizz 2HP), no separator, plastic bag on bottom, and one of those high-flow, low micron (<1um, if you believe it) bags on top. The idea was to try this out and then get the Grizz canister if I needed more cfm. But so far this is working pretty well.

          Regards,
          Tom

how many sq.ft. should I reserve in the corner next to the garage door for a DC unit, like one w/ the cyclone and a bag?
