Wynn canister filter question

Just picked up a HF 2HP DC and plan to convert it to canister. Wynn offers two - a spun bond polyester 1.0 micron filter which is "lifetime" washable, and a blend paper 0.5 micron filter which can be cleaned with compressed air.

I'm leaning toward the latter because of its 0.5 micron filter ability, but wondering just how long they last. Anyone use one? Easily cleaned? Easily ruined?

I have had the paper one on mine for over 6 months so far with no problems. I tap the outside with my knuckles from time to time when I walk by to knock the dust from the inside of the filter. It's still working fine so far.

I have the spun poly bond, both are good, I was told after a year or so, the paper one loses some air flow, the poly one is a long term better filter, but I do not know what that means, given work time and a home shop it really may not mean anything real. The main thing for me was sticky dust, epoxy layups sanded, and the ability to clean the filter after THAT kind of work. The pleats in the poly one are wider, the surface area is less, but the filtering is very close. I did a dual four pipe run, and I was afraid of the extra flow and sharp chips hitting the paper, bits of sanded fiberglass. I think it depends on what you are sanding or cutting. It seems to me, both are good for your health with a little extra air cleaning when sanding. If you use a compressor, on the paper set it to a lower pressure, or you could use the old shop vac set to blower mode. Like Monte does I whack mine with something and so far do not need to clean it.

I have the paper one and as Loring suggested to me some time ago just use your leaf blower. That's what I do and it cleans it just fine and no worry about too much air pressure like you could mistakenly do with a compressor and as Wynn's rep warned me about when I purchased it a year or so ago.

In a home shop/hobbyist environment with a bit of care taken when cleaning...the paper canister filter may also last a lifetime.
Not only does it filter smaller particles but if kept fairly clean it has higher flow capacity.
