I want to build a workbench on wheels that I can also use as outfeed table, I was thinking in a 4x8 top with cabinets under it, both sides, but I wonder if it would be too much weight, is any body done this? any reason why you think I'm gonna run in any problems?

When I worked in a big carpenter shop, we had several tables like that. They were very handy. Norm did a project like that on one of his shows that had "retractable wheels".Larry R. Rogers

Norm's had no cabinets or anything else under it, just a mobile assembly table. I think part of how the mobile feature worked involved lifting the end of the table so wheels (or their latch) dropped down. Not so easy to do if your table has even empty cabinets hanging from it, let alone full ones!- David

With GOOD casters it should work. My tool cart isn't that big but when I built it I figured the weight of the tools and the cart to be around 385#. I can steer it from one end and move it up and down a low ramp with relative ease.Don, aka Pappy,

There was a thread about a free plan from Lowes, which was a 4x8 workbench - http://www.bt3central.com/forum/topi...TOPIC_ID=14947
The link in that thread seems to be dead, but I found a working link at http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...Worktable.htmlComment

Hi Dani D;
I built a big table that I use for just what you are planning. Mine is made from two 24" solid doors. I found them at a Bargain outlet for $15 each. I bought six! They are Canadian birch veneer over masonite I think. They weigh a ton! I used a base made from 2x4's as legs and 3/4 ply as aprons on all sides. The top overhangs the base by about 8 - 10 inches on each side. I used caster wheels under each leg, the kind with the locking levers but I find I don't move it too much. It's the same height as the BT so it's a bit high for some assembly, but works OK for most. I have my planer at the other end. It's a great outfeed table even for ripping something 8 foot long! I use the sides to hang things on like a hammer, squares, triangles, blah blah...
Anyway, this table is really great. I'm lucky enough to have the room for this. My shop is about 39 feet long by 14 wide. I didn't mean to make this a gloat about my shop space, but you need a lot of space for a lot of table
I'm not good at posting pics here, but I can send you a pic or two via email if you would like. The last time I posted pics they took up the whole screen and then some! One guy said by the time he finished viewing the pic, he forgot what it was he was looking at! Great line!! Besides, this table's construction technique isn't something to brag about, that's for sure...

I love how they advertise in their stores and on plans 1/4" pegboard, yet all they ever carry is 3/16".
