    Confessions Of A Cramaholic

I've just uploaded thirty-odd pictures of the innards of my shop to a shared folder, accessible thru my profile. I thought I'd do it that way rather than post them all in a thread that would take five and half hours to load for people on dial-up.

The pictures are in a folder named ... wait for it ... "Shop." This link will take you straight there (must be logged in, I think).

The pictures illustrate just how much st*ff can be crammed into a room measuring only ten feet by nineteen, with barely six feet of headroom.

Anyone expecting anything even remotely Kirbyesque is going to be sorely disappointed.

Sorry, Larry, but I can't locate your pix via your profile. Could you please give more explicit instructions?

I love that assembly table. How did you create a flat surface to build that table on?

ElRay: No "uploaded pictures" link on his profile. I did finally get there via a link named "View files uploaded by LarryG".

Well I'm not disappointed! I couldn't manage in a space that small.

You show how to make the most of what you have - looks great!

David (and maybe others): Sorry, I guess I could've included more clear instructions about how to find the images. Chalk it up to, "Hey, *I* know how, so doesn't everybody?" [)]

Gary: Heh, that WAS a bit of a challenge. I started by leveling the Ryoborghini, the largest flat surface in my shop, as closely as I could. Then I edge-jointed a half-dozen short 2x4s and spaced them out atop the Ryoborghini. Then carefully shimmed up each end of the 2x4s using thin cardboard, folded paper, handplane shavings -- you know, just whatever came to hand -- until their tops were as level as I could make them. Laid a sheet of 1/2" MDF atop the 2x4s, and put a set of winding sticks atop the MDF and verified everything was as dead flat as I could make it. Took a long pull at the slivovitz, and finally started building the table.

The effort was worth it. A four-foot carpenter's level laid any which way you want to turn it atop the assembly table shows no daylight between it and the top skin at any point.

I underestimated the value of a large flat (really flat) surface until I finally made one. Not as nice as yours, though!

Re: small shop -- I get great satisfaction out of figuring out ingenious (well, for me, anyway!) ways to fit one more thing in. I'll have to scour your photos for more good ideas.

                        Regards,
                        Tom

Nice shop Larry. You seem to have it pretty well organized.

Ok, now where is the can of magic dust that you sprinkle on a weekly basis to make all the 'stuff' automagically move back to it's proper place? I have almost twice as much floor space, and still have problems finding a way to walk all the way around the BT cart on occasion.

Thanks for the tour, I'm sure I will find a number of orginazation tips that will help out around here. [B)]

It's an aerosol spray, not a sprinkling-dust, which may account for why you missed it. It's right there in the picture named Supplies_In_The_Rafters.

And I use it every day. The once-a-week kind requires an HVLP sprayer, and I don't own one of those.
