New collapsable wide table and extension

I wonder if one could use nested aluminum legs . . . like 1/2" bottoms nested in 3/4" tops? Something lighter than the galvanized. Or maybe have a way to easily remove the galvanized legs from the table extension so they're not pulling down on the fence track.

Good questions. Ill look at weight and distortions. I would have assumed that since the hinges are relatively close to the locks on rails plus due to the profile of the aluminum that it wouldnt be an issue. But its worth looking into. I almost have drawing done for posting. Not sure how to do since I dont know how to do pdf file. I can have it as a word doc though. IF you didnt need horizontal galvined bar Which you might not. You could simply hand tightend pipe and remove. I was just going for a little more rigidity. Lets give it some thought. Im willing to change and let you know how your ideas work

Ive put a pdf under my profile name. So just click my name on left and browse. As far as weight, Wow it is a little heavy including hinges it ways 25 lbs. (without galvanized pipe) I will check for any warpage. But havent noticed any yet. So will keep you posted

How did you attach the adjustable feet ? When the extension table is folded down make sure that you put a wedge under the end of it to support the added weight -- don't let it just hang off the end.

What RainShadow says makes sense I just never thought of a wedge or two. I have always had concerns with the weight of my factory made extension table hanging off the rails. I do have two sets of extension rails on my BT3 and would like to add sectional extension tables, on the out feed side, so no matter wich part of the rails I was using I could swing up a section of out feed.rmoore has me thinking now!

Thanks.. I have a pdf file on under my name that may explain what your looking for...if not I can take a few pics and fire your way. Im not sure if your refering to the feet that screw into the legs. The legs are too long to fold back under table so hand screw part of it.

Another idea for the legs would be either aluminum or the thicker walled copper pipe. Save some weight and add some style points. (maybe do a heat/chemical patina on the copper, ala David Marks????)
