    How does one ...

How does one make a headboard (or footboard for that matter) that is curved and has what I can only describe as multi-layer molding as in this photo?

I could imagine maybe a heavy duty shaper but I suspect there is some clever way to accomplish this that escapes me ....

Is it going to be painted?

If so, PVC molding is fairly flexible and could be shaped to the curve. It could also be faux finished to resemble wood.

Funny how Matthias' "not exact" is usually much more exact than my exact.
