Floor stringers for s/v JoJo P

Working on the floor stringers. Has to be very precise since the rest of the forward cabin will be sitting on them. Takes a lot of time because there are no flat surfaces. Here are the two thwartships that will be about 8' apart with two other main stringers hanging from the pockets you see. Then there will be more thwartships stringers notched to fit across those. Should go faster now.

Was it trial and error or did you try to make a paper template? Is that red oak? How are they installed in their finally place? Screwed from the inside to the hull?

For the aft (longer) unit i used the original (2x4) as a template and extended the lines for the new 2x6. This one will be bolted to the bulkhead (wall) that separates the cabin from the engine room. After that the layout is all different so no more using originals as patterns - trial and error.

Wood is western red cedar which will be coated with West Systems epoxy to seal and then painted.

The originals were 2x4 and were not fastened to the hull at all. just held in place by gravity and built in cabinets and settees on top of the floor which were tabbed to the hull with fiberglass. The originals were placed approximately every 2 feet from side to side with some cross braces to hold them in relative position and provide edges for floor hatches to sit on. The aft piece will be bolted to a bulkhead and the forward one will be tabbed to the hull with fiberglass matting and epoxy. The ones that will go side to side in between these two will be 2x4 and notched to fit into matching notches on the 2x6 stringers running fore and aft. They will be screwed to the fore and aft stringers but not attached to the hull.
