Did I ever tell you that I don't live that far from you?

Oh goodness. After reading that I almost fainted. And had heart palpitations.

I have seen what walnut looks like with just a clear finish and love it. I would say to go with a different wood and paint that, maybe pine????

If you would like tell her that you will build her something with the walnut and not use it for cabinets.

Or just stand in the kitchen and kick and scream and say you will hold your breath until she takes those word back about painting walnut.

I am glad you have come to your senses Paul! I will tell you this much, bleaching walnut can give a very beautiful color, but it sure ain't the white the mrs. is looking for. Good call to buy the appropriate wood for painting. I'll let the mods know that you are no longer banned ;-)

Just the "question" so shocked me, that I had to wait another day to visit it again. I'm glad to read that your senses have returned.

I've got these colonial dark pine cabinets in my kitchen at the Painted Post home... the Realtor thought the kitchen looked much too dark and wanted me to paint them white... that was last spring, my blood-pressure is still not back to normal ; and that was JUST pine!

I did a coffered ceiling for an architect's own home in a natural finished Red Oak. Looked beautiful. I returned some months later to make some furniture, and noticed that the woodwork was painted white. Seems like the wife thought white would look better.

It must take some "thick skin" to do that kind of work and then return to see how it was treated. I believe that I do NOT have the temperament for that (and definitly not the talent).

Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year,
