How often have you resawn on your b.s.?

Is this something that you prize your bandsaw's ability to do?

Do you resaw to create flitches of bookmatched panels, for thicknessing or for rough log preparation?

Prized because of its ability to do so.

I resaw, break down small logs of stuff like Apple, Pear, Bodark and other interesting wood, and do other general rough work with it.

It's only got a 6 inch resaw capacity so I have to get creative with the chainsaw to get the right pieces to cut.

C&H, I regularly use my bandsaw to break down logs/limbs into rough board stock, or to create turning blanks. I'm also using it more of late to make bandsaw boxes. My saw is a 14in model that had the 6in clearance before I put in a riser to get 12in, which allows me to cut larger bowl blanks from larger rough segments. I also create my pen blanks on the bandsaw; seems easier (and safer) than using the tablesaw, and with the smaller blade kerf, there's less waste.

I use mine for mostly cutting flitches (not from logs), curves, making circles, and tenons.

This afternoon I have to resaw 1 1/2" x 7" x 48" oak into 1/8" veneer for a table top. But beside resaw work I do a lot of cross cut and ripping on the BS because my BT3 is against the wall. Not to forget curve work is a real positive. Biggest hassle is blade changes, seems every time I need the saw the wrong blade is installed. Right now I have a 1/4" 6Tpi blade and I need my 3/4" resaw blade.

I've tried it twice, and it was miserable both times. If I had a decent bandsaw I'm sure I would be able to pick the last option. I'm seriously considering getting the G5055X or the new G5055LX.

Just about all I ever use my BS for is re-sawing.

I have a Rikon 14" deluxe 10-325 and I use a 3/4" Woodslicer blade. I changed the bearings to Carter micro adjust and replaced the fence with a Krieg. Those additions were the best money I ever spent on tools.
No drift, no noise and I get almost totally repetitive thickness just about every time.

Just curious Bruce--did you do your set-up following the Alex Snodgrass video? Thanks.

                  Earl,
I did use the DVD, some of it was outstanding, some real elementary. It did sort out some of my mis-direction in setting uo the BS. Although I'm left with the feeling that it was one big ad for Carter.
                  But it did help.
Also I think the change to a Woodslicer from the Timberwolf I was using really made the difference.

I only have a 9" band saw, so what I can resaw is pretty small. Someday a nice Griz G0555X will show up at my door.
