    Purpleheart in a cutting board?

When I finish my current project, I'll have plenty of scrap that I'll turn into an end-grain cutting board for LOML. I'm wondering if something like purpleheart as an accent/contrast would work, or is that a bad idea?

Purple heart makes a great color combo with soft maple. Only downside, it is a hard wood. The end grain was also very tough to sand flush after final assembly. I do not have a drum sander so I did router skis. I was doing a couple boards at the time so it made that tasks simpler.
