Folks, I'm working on a design I saw on LJs. Also thought I'd see
If I can figure out a way to post pics straight from my iPhone. Picasa doesn't seem to have this functionality without going through my desktop.

Question: are the purpleheart background squares too much? Should I use something lighter to better show of the purpleheart strips?

Looking good Poobah - firs impression when looking was: nice! As for other wood choices in the squares: walnut would look good and compliment the colors well. If you wanted to go lighter, maple would also be a good choice. :-)
