Basstracker beat me by a few hours. Except what I would do is trench out where the ties lie and fill with gravel or sand to keep water from puddling under the wood.

I went to HD today and saw this.

      http://www.homedepot.com/buy/james-h...-oc-21507.html

I know, it is for siding, but the property seems good enough. It is thin like quarter inch, but if I stack two, it seems to be strong. The cost, if I stack, would be a bit higher than treated ply, but it seems like it is water proof and bug proof and all that.

Have anyone use this before? Do you think this is an option? Again, it is intended for siding, and I am using on the floor.

      Thanks,
      Joe.

Hardie also makes a cementuous backer board. Its intended use is under tile for walls and floors. It is supposed to be installed over a subfloor deck though. I don't think it was intended to span joists to carry loads. You can just score it with a knife and snap it. It'll probably snap under foot if it were even a modest clear span.

Thanks, I am glad you pointed out.

          OK, treated ply it is.

          Thanks for all the advice.

          Joe.

For a really serious sub-floor base:
