    What about paint???

Howdy y'all! As the story goes, DW found a ten-drawer chest to serve as the base for a bedroom wall unit...I'm to build the shelf 'towers' for either side and the shelves to go above the TV space, complete with crown molding to match the existing trim.

The chest/dresser is Made in Texas of clear pine('in the raw', as they say) and I'll make the towers from some sort of 3/4 ply, I reckon. It will all be painted with S-W SuperPaint in a 'white chip' color to match the trim. My questions relate to the ply and to the finish application...Do I face any challenges using pretty good plywood for the shelf towers since the base in made of pine? I'll prime all surfaces and the SuperPaint is excellent trim paint; but, any chance the difference in wood(s) will be noticeable? I'm thinking of strength/stability when building the shelves, even though they won't hold much...the TV will rest on 'top' of the dresser, DVR and DVD players will be on shelves spanning the center space above the TV.

I've got a spray gun and compressor but have not sprayed anything since some louvered doors a few years back. Should I go the HVLP(new gun) route or just go old school with roller/brush? My paint 'booth' options are the garage or outside(chances of a non-windy day would be slim but possible). I could dedicate one garage bay while DW is out of town. I'll brush on the primer but wouldn't mind a nice sprayed finish unless I'm just asking for trouble. What to do...what to do?

Appreciate any suggestions/experiences for this project.
    Thanks and adios. Rick
