    Not quite done yet

I've been working on this cherry bookcase for my son for a few months as time permits. The first picture is my messy shop with the build in progress. The 2nd and 3rd are after the finish and I brought it inside for a few weeks before I take it to my sons apt. It still needs the knobs added and the crown piece added but the end is in sight. The finish is a shellac washcoat followed by BLO a simple sprayed shellac, 3 coats then rubbed to a satin finish. My son liked the sapwood hi-lites so I left them in there. I got a little bit of blotching but that will fade with time as it builds some patina.

That's looking good. Your son ought to be pleased.

How did you hinge the doors?

For the hinge I dado'd a slot and the door has brass pins which ride in the dado's. Simple but effective. I looked at the hinge system that Rockler, etc have but didn't care for it and it would be problematic for my son to have to replace if it broke or wore out.

OK, I like the simple type that you did. I've seen several solutions and differing hardware.
