    poker table pedestal

a friend is bulding a poker table and considering using this as the pedestal:

    http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?p...ble%20pedestal

is anyone aware of any alternative sources for similar pedestals? the rockler unit doesn't seem all that substantial and seems a little pricey. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

He could build a hollow core pedestal. Here is an example from Woodsmith Mag 158 that has some great Poker Table plans.

These guys might have something http://www.osbornewood.com/
They look to be more expensive than the Rockler version.

That's the larger, hollow core version they also sell. You just have to get the individual bits and pieces, instead of one whole unit.

Nahm's poker table plans include a hollow-core pedestal. Plus you get to see Nahm at work if you buy the DVD.

Not sure if this helps, it might be a bit smaller than you were lookign at. Thinking it could be "beefed up" for appearence.

This is the base of the coat rack that I built out of white oak. Simple mortise and tennon construction.

The post is 4" square. It is a very, very heavy piece.
