Shoji Screens - plans...?

I'd like to build several Shoji screens for our home but cannot find any plans of any kind. I've searched our local library and looked at several books on Amazon... Can anyone provide a source for plans...? Anyone build Shoji previously...?

As usual, Fine Woodworking has done an excellent job with drawings and photos in this article.

If I remember correctly, Fine Woodworking ran a Shoji article about a zillion years ago. I should have the issue. Once I do find it (if it really exists), I'll scan it and sent to you in a PM.

Bruce, that's probably the one I referenced above. The book is copyrighted 1991. so it is probably before that. Unfortunately, I have no way to copy the article for Jack now, because my computer was infected and I had to reformat my hard drive and I don't have my scanner set up yet. The article was written by Ben Erickson if that helps. The article does not say what issue it had appeared in.

Woodsmith June 1988 No. 57 has an article about Shoji screens also but I have not seen it. Just checked the Woodsmith index. It's available here:

Jack, I searched through my collection of FWW, thought I had everyone issue, but it appears that I'm missing a couple of years worth, and or course the one you need is one of the missing.

New houses in the past 15 years over here, for the most part, have not had them. They are only in older houses, or the rare and very expensive new house that is built to look old traditional. Japanese shun the older houses if they can.

Shoji screens are too easily damaged - for anyone with kids.
