So on my way home I decide to stop by an Estate sale. I end up buying some tools (much of it was bought up bought by a re-seller the previous day). I see a stack of lumber in the back and ask if she knows what kind it is and how much she wants for it. She says she has no idea what species it is and laughs saying anyone who buys any tools can have all the wood they want. I said are you sure and she says yah. I make my way toward the back but realize I would have to move tons of tools and other stuff to get it out and I just didn't have the time or energy. I told her I'd come back Sunday and if it was still there I'd take it. Taking one last look before I leave I notice a couple of boxes filled with small blanks. Bowl and pen size. This must be kismet because I had just taken my first pen turning class a week ago. Actually the first time I ever used a lathe. I ask if I can have them and she happily agrees saying she just wants to get rid of it. I thank her and was off my merry way.
Anyway after that long winded story let me get to my question. This is about 3/4 the contents of one box. Can anyone tell me what species these blanks are. I'm on a pen turning high right now and if I decide I like how one of them turns out I want to be able to get another blank of that wood.
